This firm was organized in Syracuse in 1964 as the upstate branch of the New York City based law firm Martin, Clearwater & Bell. In the early 1970's, the firm became an independent law firm with a practice devoted to the defense of medical malpractice actions. During the late 1960's and early 1970's we served as trial counsel in Upstate New York for the principal carrier underwriting medical liability insurance in New York. Since 1975, when coverage of New York physicians was undertaken chiefly by Medical Liability Mutual Insurance Company, we have served as one of its lead trial counsel for its insureds in Upstate New York. We also represent parties insured by Physicians' Reciprocal Insurers, Medical Malpractice Insurance Pool, Academic Health Professionals Insurance Association and other insurers of health care professionals and institutions.

Our work defending physicians, hospitals, and other medical professionals and institutions involves actions in New York State Supreme Court venued in nearly all of the Upstate New York counties and in Federal Court. We also represent individuals in matters involving professional discipline initiated by various government agencies. The firm's attorneys have tried cases involving virtually every medical specialty and all degrees of complexity and severity. While our work continues to be primarily devoted to the defense of medical malpractice actions, we also have defended cases involving dental malpractice, premises liability, employment law, sexual harassment, and nursing home malpractice.
